This is ideal for the first-time visitor to Bhutan, taking in all of the highlights at a relaxed pace. Starting in Kathmandu, where you have a night to explore this diverse city, you will take a short but spectacular flight to Paro providing wonderful views of the Himalaya. On arrival you drive to Thimpu, the capital, before heading eastwards to perhaps Bhutan’s most beautiful of valleys Punakha. Before a final stay at Paro where you can walk up to the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery.

DAY 1 - KATHMANDU
On arrival in Kathmandu you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel. After a morning at leisure to relax after your flights you will have a tour of Kathmandu city, where you can wander around the beautiful Durbar Square with its traditional pagoda temples and then head to the "Monkey Temple", Swayambhunath, a huge Buddhist stupa set on a hill.

DAY 2 - THIMPU
You will take the Druk Air flight from Kathmandu to Paro - this is an incredible flight passing numerous 8000m peaks including Mount Everest. On arrival you will be met by your guide and driver. You will then make the short journey by road to Thimpu. On the way it is possible to stop and see Simtokha Dzong, one of the oldest in Bhutan. You can spend as long as you like over this journey. When you arrive in Thimpu you have no planned excursions so you are free to spend your time as you please.

DAY 3 -THIMPU
Today is your first full day in Bhutan. You may like to spend part of the morning looking around the weekend market in Thimpu before visiting the remaining sights in Thimpu. Thimpu is a great place to walk around and there are lots of interesting shops to look in which sell local crafts.

DAY 4 - PUNAKHA
You have some time in Thimpu to spend at leisure this morning. Thimpu is a pedestrian friendly town and there are many interesting shops that you can look in. Later in the day you will make the journey by road to Punakha. The Dochu La (Pass) at 3140 m offers great views of the mountains on clear days yet also takes on a wonderfully eerie feel if the mist descends. On the way to Punakha you pass Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of the divine mad monk. Before you continue on to your accommodation in Punakha you can take the beautiful walk over the rice fields to visit this unique little temple.

DAY 5 - PUNAKHA
Enjoy a day walk that includes the scenic Khamsum Yul-le Namgyel Chorten. The Chorten lies at the other end of the valley to Punakha Dzong and the walk along the river to this point is lovely. You can take the walk at your own pace, stopping to admire the scenery as often as you like.

DAY 6 - PARO
Today you will travel back to Paro which is the final place you will visit on your tour of Bhutan. In the afternoon you may visit Paro Dzong and Ta Dzong, which used to be a watchtower but is now the fascinating National Museum or this can be completed in addition to your excursions tomorrow.

DAY 7 - PARO
You will begin the day with a walk up the Tiger`s Nest Monastery. The path is steep and the walk takes around 3 hours to reach the top where you can go in and look around the monastery. The views are incredible and well worth the climb. If you did not have time yesterday you can visit Drukgyel Dzong and the National Museum this afternoon, continue exploring the valley with your guide or rest & relax at your hotel.

DAY 8 - PARO
Spend the day at Cheli La, one of the highest passes in the area. Here you can walk and visit some local villages and admire the mountain views.

DAY 9 - KATHMANDU
This morning you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Kathmandu. You will be transferred to your hotel, the rest of the afternoon is at leisure.

This morning you will catch your return flights, via Delhi, arriving home the same day.
